This period Louis XVI settee, dating back to the years 1750 to 1760, bears mark G.Sene for Claude I Sen\u00e9 (1724-1792), a renowned French furniture maker who created pieces for the French Royal Family, including Marie Antoinette. It is constructed of solid beach wood, retaining its original painted and gilded finish.<\/p>\n
The settee has undergone full restoration process. Other than its tacking strips, which required rebuilding, it retains the original horsehair padding, muslin cover and a (very generous!) goose down cushion. Italian silk damask by Schumacher was chosen as cover fabric in an attempt to re-create the look it might have had when it was first built.<\/p>\n
