This period Louis XVI settee, dating back to the years 1750 to 1760, bears mark G.Sene for Claude I Sené (1724-1792), a renowned French furniture maker who created pieces for the French Royal Family, including Marie Antoinette. It is constructed of solid beach wood, retaining its original painted and gilded finish.
The settee has undergone full restoration process. Other than its tacking strips, which required rebuilding, it retains the original horsehair padding, muslin cover and a (very generous!) goose down cushion. Italian silk damask by Schumacher was chosen as cover fabric in an attempt to re-create the look it might have had when it was first built.
This formerly French aristocracy-owned piece was fully restored to its glory and is ready for an everyday use.
